Seyit Korkmaz is a licensed tour guide born and raised in Istanbul. He attended Istanbul Social Sciences High School, where he learned English and Ottoman Turkish. He later studied history at Middle East Technical University as a high honor student and completed his master’s in Tourist Guiding at Cappadocia University. He taught world history in the International Baccalaureate diploma program at Hüseyin Avni Sözen Anatolian High School. He briefly worked as a guide and translator in Democracy and Liberties Island (Yassiada), where 1960 coup trials were held. He is currently pursuing his master’s in history at Bilgi University.
His fields are Ottoman and Turkish modernization theories, modern Ottoman and Turkish economic, social, and cultural history, Anatolian subaltern studies, modern Kurdish history and slum tourism.
